Export of locally-produced crops eyed

Keio Pacific Inc. has leased the old Palau Marine Industries Corporation (PMIC) premises from Koror State Public Lands Authority which will be the site of farming of locally-produced crops.

Oki Mika, major shareholder of the company, will be working hand in hand with an airline to fly the goods from Palau to Japan.

Mika said the company will be assisting Palau in developing locally -owned products which can be marketable for export.

The company in the future is also planning in venturing out into developing the aquaculture industry.

Keio Pacific also recently obtained a fishing agreement license with Palau.

Mika said that her company wants to invest in Palau because of its open policy.

“We are willing to invest in Palau because of its open policy and because of the supportive attitude of the government. We hope to succeed,” Mika said.

Mika was accompanied by the rest of the company’s incorporators during a dinner with President Johnson Toribiong, Friday night.

“If the investors make money, Palau also makes money, “Toribiong said.

Also present in the dinner are Chief Compact Negotiator Joshua Koshiba and the company’s lawyer Salvador Remoket.
