“I want him to organize the procedures and steps for an effective fundraising promotion,” the president said. According to him, Palau in the spirit of humanity needs to step up and extend help to Haiti victims.
In the US, President Barrack Obama and former president Bill Clinton lead efforts to raise funds for Haiti. In Australia, on the eve of Australian Open, Roger Federer, Serena Williams and several other international tennis players raised more than $185,000 and counting in an event dubbed “Hit for Haiti.”
Help from all over the world poured in not only in terms of goods and funds, but through volunteer works. But due to transport bottlenecks and lack of local organization, hundreds of thousands of earthquake victims remained unaided. Many are feared to have remained buried, most are feared dead.
Reports say that in more than a week since a 7.0-magnitude earthquake crashed and shattered Haiti’s capital, authorities have recovered close to 72,000 bodies, not including those unnamed and were already buried by their own families. As of date, an estimated 200,000 are feared dead and 1.5 million homeless.
