Pohnpeians satisfied with accommodations at Micro Games

The 195 athletes and officials from Pohnpei were assigned 11 rooms at Palau High School and one room at Palau Community College, and they said they’re all satisfied with their living quarters.

“As far as preparations are concerned, everything was okay,” Mike Loyola, Chef de Mission of Pohnpei team, said in an interview. “The food is good; security, accommodations and living situations are excellent.” He added that their living quarters are clean and air conditioned.

Pohnpei bagged a total of 46 medals — 12 gold, 15 silver and 19 bronze.

“We’re happy with what we’ve got,” Loyola sais. “From the last Micro Games which we participated in Saipan, what we got in this one is a lot better in terms of medals.”

Pohnpei excelled in swimming, fast pitch and athletics. Their silver and bronze medals are scattered around several sports.

Loyola said that they also learned a lot from other athletes. “There are certain sports that we learn a lot from other teams. Their level of competition is a lot higher than ours. We take it as a challenge and we work towards that.”

Before the Pohnpei delegation left on Tuesday, they made sure that their living quarters were clean and organized. So in the afternoon, before the closing ceremony, Pohnpeians worked together to tidy up the place, sweeping and cleaning their respective areas.
