PSS hosts 4-day meeting on school accountability system

(PSS) — Administrators and staff from three public schools met this week to discuss an accountability system for the Public School System.

Experts from the Region 18 Comprehensive Center or R18CC were on island for the four-day meeting from Feb. 13 to 16.

The venue of the first meeting was the Saipan World Resort. Subsequent meetings were held in the conference room of the Public School System’s Federal Programs Office on Capital Hill.

“The meetings included discussions on performance measures and indicators that will be used in building our accountability system,” said Dr. Rizalina Liwag, PSS senior director for accountability, research and evaluation.

The technical support providers from R18CC who are working with PSS  include Hendrich Cho, R18CC senior specialist; Lynette Villagomez, R18CC network co-director;  Celine Orsini, PSS accountability program manager, and Dr. Eric Crane, WestEd research senior researcher.

The participants of the four-day meeting were the administrators and staff of Koblerville Elementary School, Hopwood Middle School and Marianas High School.

The school system’s Accountability Task Force has been working for several years now to  develop and design an accountability system which will include a school accountability report card.

The report card will detail a school’s performance based on  indicators such as student academic achievement,  attendance, and graduation rates.
