Sugiyama’s appointment was earlier rejected but the Senate in a session Wednesday voted 8-2 to reconsider the appointment.
Greg Decherong’s appointment has been deferred and no action has been taken on it yet. Decherong and Sugiyama’s appointments are the third that the President Johnson Toribiong has submitted to the Senate for confirmation.The Senate earlier rejected the appointment of businessman George Ngirarsaol to PPUC board. He did not obtain enough votes to get confirmed. Shallum Etpison’s appointment meanwhile was withdrawn upon the businessman’s request. Prior to the submission of Ngirarsaol and Etpison’s name, the Senate rejected the appointments of former Senator Surangel Whipps Sr. and former health minister Victor Yano to the PPUC board. There is a vacancy in the board after the president accepted the resignations of two members of the PPUC board.
