The Chow Queens took a strong lead in the beginning, with Dave Sablan and Bon Tamayo steering clear of Cavite defenders. Sablan hooked a clean layup at first, while Tamayo followed with a three-pointer.
Cavite’s Bernard Montano was the only player to strike a two-pointer past the Chow Queens. James Villacrusis and Roy Hernandez had their shot at the basket, but were fouled. Both players chipped in one point for the team, totaling their score to four points in the first quarter.
The intensely fought match reached its peak in the second half, when a quarrel brewed between Cavite’s Tim Wesley and Chow Queen’s Kae Bernardo. Both players nearly exchanged fists when they were stopped by officials and players. Bigger trouble loomed ahead when more members from both teams collided with each other. Chow Queen was penalized for breaching Cavite’s side of the court, while Bernardo and Wesley were expelled from the game.
Less physical contact resulted from both teams after the altercation. Keeping their distance from Cavite defenders, Glen Aquino and Christian De Vero blasted eight more points for Chow Queen.
The Cavites lost the match by 100-82, with Villacrusis scoring the highest with 20 points. Chow Queen’s Kelvin Fitial came next to him with 16 points, while Tamayo earned 15.
