CNMI gains FISU membership

FISU stands for Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire. It is a group of more than 100 national university sports federations.

Founded in 1949, FISU supervises both summer and winter universaides and the world university championships.

During the NMASA meeting at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym at 7 last night, White said he just received an email unofficially informing him that NMI was accepted as member of FISU.

This was mentioned during the FISU conference in Belgrade, Serbia that started yesterday and will conclude on July 12.

White said it was still an unofficial word from the executive council that is spearheading the meeting yesterday.

He said it is a great to hear about the good news. Being a member of FISU, he said is another big step for the CNMI sports organizations to participate in an international event.  This, at least makes it up for the CNMI for not being a part of Olympic family.

FISU was formed to promote sporting values and encourage sporting practice and harmony with, and complementary to the university spirit.

As FISU’s  main governing body the General Assembly elects the executive committee for four years.
