According to some of the coaches of the ECSL, most of the states (Ngchesar, Melekeok, Ngiwal, Ngaraard, Ngarchelong, and Kayangel) that comprise the league and Ongiall 16 States Association, which organizes and officiates the games of the league, are heavily involved in the Belau Games.
“Most of the teams that are in the league will be representing each respective state during the Belau games,” said an ECSL coach.Further, he said that some members of the teams will be participating in other sports events and need time to practice.According to Clifton Rubasch of the Melekeok Salty Boys, he and most of the members of the Salty Boys have dedicated all the available time they have to practice for the Belau Games. He said that of the 18 sporting events in the Belau Games, Melekeok State will participate in 16. Moreover, many of the members of the Salty Boys will participate in multi-sports events.All of the managers, coaches, and officials of the ECSL met and agreed that the ECSL games should be laid off until the Belau Games is over.“Even though we rather that the ECSL games continue,” said one of the coaches, “it is in the best interests of the states, the players, and most of all, the league that the games are postponed.The ECSL games, according to the coaches, will resume on the weekend right after the Belau Games.“ECSL will resume its scheduled games on the 26th of July,” the coaches said. “All scheduled games have been pushed forward and run until the season is completed.”
