Frank ‘The Crank’ to enter jiu jitsu tourney

“The Crank” will enter the purple belt weight division at 181 lbs. (with gi) representing the Maryland-based Team Lloyd Irvin.

“This is the same world championships I competed in last year as a blue belt,” said Camacho in an email to Marianas Variety.

In 2010, Camacho swept the middle weight category in the blue belt division and won first place — right above his teammate, De’Alonzio Jackson. It was after this same tournament that Camacho was promoted to purple belt.

The tournament takes place in June 2-5 and is the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation’s biggest annual event. The event was first held in 1996 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to the IBJJF website.

1,650 competitors were recorded in 2005, with an audience of 12,000. The World Jiu Jitsu Championships were moved to the United States in 2007.

Camacho may have a mixed martial arts fight scheduled for July or August, but no specific dates or venues were confirmed.

“I’ve been working with an awesome new boxing coach, Troy Fox. He’s a Thai boxing coach from Holland teaching Holland-style kickboxing,” he added.

Camacho, under the guidance of BJJ and MMA coach Lloyd Irvin, also trains with a wrestling coach — Jared Pratt.

“Special thank you to Cuki Alvarez and Trench Tech for helping me out getting to California from Maryland and for Team Lloyd Irvin and Master Lloyd for their awesome training,” he said.
