Freddie Cataluna
FREDDIE Cataluna ended the Saipan Golf Association’s 2024 season with his head held high, clinching the coveted Ace of Aces title with a net score of 69 at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024.
Cataluna performed well, with strong tee-offs, accurate placements, and smooth putt finishes that kept him ahead of the competition.
On the front nine, Cataluna finished in the lead with a gross score of 37. The veteran golfer solidified his position on the back nine, where slight tweaks to his swing led to a gross score of 35, for a total gross score of 72.
Despite a handicap of 3, Cataluna clinched the Ace of Aces title with a gross total of 69, finishing the annual tournament on top.
In second place was Patrick Cepeda who shot a gross of 42 on the front nine and 47 on the back for a total gross of 89. With a handicap of 18, his net score was 71, good enough for second place.
Rick Kautz also had a net score of 71, but he was outperformed by Cepeda in the scorecard playoff and had to settle for third place.
Alex Tudela came in fourth while Frances Sablan finished fifth. They shared a net score of 72, but in the scorecard playoff, Tudela shot a gross of 46 and 41 while Sablan scored a gross of 52 even.
In sixth place was Nick Sablan with a net score of 73.
In the optional play, the closest to the pin winners were Alex Tudela for hole #4, Joe Crisostomo for hole #6 and hole #15, and Freddie Cataluna for hole #11.
For the longest drive, Cataluna was supreme on hole #3 while Larry Deleon Guerrero ruled on hole #18.
