Joeten’s Chris Lilles takes the uncontested three-point shot during a 2023 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League game at the Ada gym.
JOETEN and PSS continue to improve their standings in the 2023 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League after defeating their respective foes at the Ada gym on Tuesday.
Joeten managed to fend off Docomo in a nail-biting game, 79-76.
Joeten was able to set the tone in the opening quarter with Ervin Villarin leading the onslaught with 12 points, thanks to his ability to finish at the rim while teammates Sid Quan and Alex Lauron likewise delivered the buckets to give Joeten a double-digit advantage, 27-14.
But Docomo gradually built momentum in the second canto with Shane Deleon Guerrero, who scored 12 of his team’s 14 points in the first quarter, finding the bottom of the net to score 12 more points while teammates Donnovan Santos and Pedro Lizama chipped in a combined eight points to cut Joeten’s lead, 36-39.
A back-and-forth battle ensued in the third period with Deleon Guerrero and Santos at the frontline for Docomo, but they were answered each time by Quan, Lauron and Rafael Ordona as Joeten maintained control, 60-57.
It all came down to the final few minutes of the fourth quarter with Docomo relying on Deleon Guerrero, who scored 12 points. But his output wasn’t enough as Lauron, Quan, and Villarin continued to knock down crucial buckets to secure the win for Joeten, 79-76.
PSS vs Marpac
Joining the winner’s circle was PSS, which stunned Marpac, 82-74.
PSS made their presence felt, defensively, right from the start as they held Marpac to just nine points while PSS’s Preston Basa, Mii Tekopua and Melvin Sakisat rained downed threes to seize a double-digit advantage, 23-9.
Marpac flipped the script in the second quarter to cut down the lead, but they lost they way once again in the third canto while PSS’s Basa delivered from beyond the arc to retain the lead, 63-53.
Coby Santos and James Lee tried to shed some light for Marpac, combining for 12 points in the fourth and final quarter, but Melvin Sakisat scored 11 points to seal the deal for PSS, 82-74.
