Matansa, MP-United 1 win U13 football festival

In the boys division, the two split teams of MP United clashed for the championship title of the Spring 2009 Youth Football Festival at the Hopwood Junior High Football Field.

The Matansa won the girl’s championship game getting three quick goals with Maria Bansil taking the lead and Doreen Ravell scoring straight off the whistle within 30 seconds.

Bansil attacked from the left and scored in the 15th minute of the first half. In the next five minutes, Ravell took the best chance through the right field and scored, for a winning 2-0 lead.

However, the Independent Football Club said they are still alive when Nancy Oscar responded with a break away, starting from the top of the circle and goaled in the 24th minute.

Early in the second half, Ravell duplicated the break away as she took the ball from halfway and all the way through the tight defense and scored. The final score was 3-1.

In the boys division where MP-United 1 had to put on orange best to distinguish themselves from the other-half-turned-opponent team, MP-United 3, Dakota Hall maneuvered through a lot of defensive positions in the fifth minute of the first half to set the first advantage, 1-0.

A left fielder, Hall was in his own ground (left field) when he got a pass a team mate and made the second goal in the 12th minute.

The game was also attributed to the good defense, especially with the stunning shot blocks of MP-United 1 goalie, Jack Shearer at the right side of the goal.
