PTI ends DPW’s hope in the playoffs

PTI came in prepared to finish off DPW in the remaining 4 minutes 32 seconds on the time clock. Their game was cut short on August 18 after a power outage darkened the Ada hard court.

PTI’s Kelvin Fitial set off a total of 18 points in the hoop, and teammates Edsel Mendoza and Elmer Esdrellon backed him up with 14 points each.

Fitial, together with Bruce Berline and Norman Del Rosario, made a good showing in the final minutes of play with their strong offense inside the shaded area, breaching the defense of DPW.

Edgar Pangelinan of DPW, who crafted a total of 48 shots in the entire game, came in short for more aggressive shots for his team in the final period.

Pangelinan’s 11 successful three-point shots were laid to waste as PTI’s Brad Ruszala, Fitial, Berline, and the other telecommunications cagers helped create a strong defensive play, preventing DPW from connecting to the basket.

Berline fired the last two points for PTI in the final seconds, making the team reach a seven-point lead margin against DPW.

Currently, PTI has secured itself a 10-1 win-lose card, whereas DPW has drawn a 3-8 win-lose ticket.

Under the Inter-government/Business League, each team is allowed only to play a total of 11 games, after which, its team standing will determine whether or not it has to move on to the finals match.

Scores:

PTI – 82: Mendoza – 14; Berline – 10; Fitial – 18; Mike Watanabe – 2; Esdrellon – 14; Del Rosario – 5; and Ruszala – 6.

DPW – 75: John Tomokane – 4; John Guerrero – 6; Oscar – 4; Pangelinan – 48; and Herman Tudela – 6.
