Red Men downs Sufa, 12-10 in Belau softball

Second only to Peleliu, the Red Men relied on an early-game offensive to join this weekend’s winner’s circle.

A solid five-run first inning put them in the lead, with Otes Okerlil hitting a two-run single in the top of the second.

Jason Manny and Martin Naputi each scored one RBI and Jeff Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly to post Sufa’s first three runs.

The Red Men surged four runs at the top of the third and came empty three innings later, scoring their last run on Payton Sakuma’s homerun.

Okerlil went 3-for-4 with three singles and one run.

Sufa thought they turned the game after a double play in the fourth inning. Cabrera earned his second RBI in the bottom of the fifth and finished with a single. The team needed only two runs after a sacrifice fly.

Ed Kapileo however, ended the game on a third out at first base.

Aside from a fielder’s choice in the first inning, Red Men’s Joe Johanes went 3-for-4 with two runs and three singles. Lefty Shiro, Sakuma, and Red Iskawa scored two runs apiece.

Team Sufa — holding four wins — dropped to seven losses.

Peleliu 7, City Boys 5

Despite falling to the Red Men twice, Peleliu stayed dominant on a 7-5 win versus the Koror City Boys.

Mabel Ngirnemelas, Dominic, and Ben delivered four runs to erase Peleliu’s three-run deficit after five scoreless innings.

Jude D. of the City Boys struck an early homer and scored another run after Openg C.’s single in the bottom of the sixth.

A few errors allowed Peleliu three more runs to rule the seventh inning. Dennis R. went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Mabel and Dominic scored two RBI each.

Docomo 21, Toro 4

Docomo Pacific improved to a 7-4 record after crushing Toro, 21-4 in Sunday’s third game.

Toro endured a dry first inning and eked out two runs from Ban Shirt and Roland Martin in the top of the second.

Aside from a perfect 4-for-4 performance, Jerry Ayuyu tallied four runs with three doubles and a single.
