Rollers I run over Saints, now holds 3-2 win-lose card

Rollers I run over Saints, 60-44 to hold a 3-2 win-lose card in the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League.

Rollers I are now tied in fourth place with Kontenders, while Saints remains on the seventh spot.

Rollers I’s Manny Matagolai opened the match with a two-pointer, which was quickly answered by Zack Rudela of Saints.

In the middle of the first quarter, Matagolai sprinkled some more shots under the basket with heavy resistance from Chalan Kanoa cagers.

To their credit, Saints somehow gave a Rollers I a hard time penetrating their defense. However, Saints out short on the offense, and later their defensive strategy came crumbling down as Rollers I bombarded shots after shots in their court.

The end of first period saw Rollers I leading by 13 points against Saints who have used up nine team fouls the quarter.

The trio of Luizi Reyes, Zack Tudela, and Joshua Lizama were the three major Chalan Kanoa cagers who brought a total of 38 baskets for their team. But this contribution was not enough to pull Saints out of the rut.

During the second period, Saints seemed to have gotten the right plan as they inched their way up the scoreboard with points coming from Tudela.

As Saints neared, and finally got to 44 points, Rollers I’s Jomar Danas came off with six straight baskets to start building a growing deficit against Saints.

Saints were not able to soar from its 44th mark; it went committing some errors that caused them to lose the match in the end.

The combined effort of Don Teregeyo, JR Concepcion, and Wons Namelo of Rollers I finished off the game with their share of baskets to seal the game at 60 points.
