Super Bowl sidestrack NMI Education Day

Government officials, business executives, workers, retirees and students are seen packed in rooms with eyes glued to televisions as they cheer for their teams.

In Northern Marianas College, it was too silent in the vicinity because students and faculty members packed auditorium watching in the wide video screen how Steelers pounded Cardinals in the earlier part of the game.

In the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3457, boxes of pizzas were especially prepared as part of the celebration for which ever team wins. Known government officials joined military veterans cheer.

Most people here, like Woody Woodruff cheered for Cardinals when the team came from behind and were breaths away to their first Super Bowl victory. But that did not happen so they were among those who were silent while Steelers fans jump in jubilation.

In Joe’s Bar and Grill, Customers tried to make the moment more exciting by doing a raffle. So nobody left the bar empty-handed even the fans who shared anguish with Cardinals at the end of the game.

Rep. Jose Reyes who cheered for Cardinals hosted the raffle draw.

Tony Cabrera of Legislative Bureau also went for Cardinals.

Republican, Karl Reyes cheered for Steelers but went as excited as Cardinals’ fans when the underdog team rallied to 20-7 just minutes to the game.

“I think most of us here go for Cardinals maybe because we islanders tend to go for the underdog,” one of the fans said.

Some die-hard Steelers almost switch sides due to the fact it is going to be the first time Cardinals would have ever win a Super Bowl, unlike Steelers who got it a number of times.

While all these things happen, fans seemed to have forgotten about the other events related to Education Day.
