Supports pour in for Oceania caging

Officials and members of Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands and the Oceania organizing committee received a major contribution yesterday from their fourth gold sponsor, Shell Marianas, Inc.

The credit amount, according to Shell Marianas’ Jeff Boyer is $5,000 as the company, he said is trying to bump it up a little bit by offering assistance with some of the tournament’s transportation needs.

Shell, he said will supply the fuel need of the people involved in running the tournament.

The Oceania Tournament will be held on Saipan from Saturday June 20, to Sunday June 28.

CNMI men and women teams will compete with their counterparts from Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Guam.

The BANMI, Boyer recalled came to them recently and told him about the tournament which he said is an exciting option for the company.

He said it is first time in over 10 years that they will sponsor an international sports event like this.

Anytime Saipan gets the chance to host sports events in such magnitude, Boyer said “it is a great thing.”

“Companies like ours would love to be involved that is why we want to support this very much,” he added.

Boyer also said that Shell Marianas certainly supports as many sports events as it can.

Organizing committee’s Mike White for his part said they are very proud and happy to have Shell Marianas as their sponsor for the tournament.

“Shell is a household name across the Pacific, it is a great product with good people and we’re very conscious of their continuous support in the NMI,” White said.

Last month, McDonald’s Restaurant handed the organizing committee $2,000 as the tournament’s early sponsor.

On May 5, the local organizers received major contribution of $5,000 from the Joeten Charitable Foundation.

This was followed last May 15, by more donations from the Duty Free Shoppers Saipan, Limited and the Tournament of Champions.
