Tinian Boating Safety unit rescues Jim Bell in Tinian channel

He is still alive.

Variety learned that Bell supposedly disappeared while swimming the Tinian channel again, but somehow encountered difficulty in his attempt.

According to Tinian police, Bell was located around 9:50 a.m., swimming 2 miles north of Tinian.

The Tinian Boating Safety unit found Bell in the area of Blow Hole – a popular tourist attraction on the island, Tinian police told Variety.

The rescue team brought Bell to the marina and was later transported to Tinian Health Center, local authorities said.

According to a fan, many have died traveling by boat across the Tinian channel, so it is remarkable that a 70-year-old person like Bell to swim the shark-infested water.

Part of the danger in swimming the channel is its strong underwater current that could overwhelm a swimmer, drowning him in eventually.

In retrospect, Bell already encountered the strong water current of the Tinian during his first attempt to cross the channel wherein he found himself being swept away miles out in the ocean.

A search and rescue mission found Bell.
