Turkey Trot starts Nov. 25

Registration for this year’s Turkey Trot will begin at 5 a.m. at Lower Base, while the race will start at 6 a.m.

Entrance fee is $10 for adults and $7 for 18-and-under runners. Top winners in seven age groups will receive turkeys courtesy of annual contributors, the Joeten Superstore, while all participants will get a chance to win great raffle prizes from various event contributors and supporters.

The 2010 edition of the annual race could possibly have a new overall champion, or it could see a repeat performance from 2009 winner Ketson “Jack” Kabiriel who blazed through the 4.2-mile mountainous race with a time of 40:16, breaking his time from last year by over 3 minutes.  Depending on weather conditions, Ketson is expected to go after and eclipse the current blistering record time of 34:20 set by Mr. Eli Torgeson.

The former Commonwealth Health Center’s anesthesiologist made it on top of the highest peak on island back in 2008 with Ketson Kabiriel placing runner-up, before heavy rains began to fall, leaving the rest of the finishers soaked when they reached the finish line. It only took Torgeson two years to break the 2006 record time of 36:46 set by Mr. Stuart Smith.

Mamiko Oshima-Berger was the first female overall finisher back in 2008 with her time of 44:09, and she also repeated as the overall female winner breaking her old record with a time of 43:56 last year.

Other top finishers in various age groups were Angelo Jones, Lia Rangamar, Michael Brown, Katie Peters, Nikki Gabaldon, Josh Stevens, Kam Bae Ji, Heather Kennedy, Andrea Ozawa and Dan Calvo.

Last year’s Turkey Trot drew over 125 runners.
