The Hawks, Dynamites, Yellow Idols, and Orange Shuttlers jumped into Sunday’s semi series, eliminating the league’s bottom three teams.
The Shuttlers couldn’t get through the Dynamites, losing 16-2. Jerry Hibi and Kanata Omori sparked the Dynamites’ winning spree after crushing Lito Mendoza and Richad Asuncion. The rest came easy for Dynamites’ So Young Lee and Elma Labuson, who edged Malou Mendoza and Lani Bartolome. Ferdie Arago and Choi Hannah nearly scored for the Shuttlers until they lost 21-16 to Dick Guintu and Marlene Peraja in the third set.
The Black Hawks trailed the Dynamites by six sets in the semis, winning 10-3 against team Yellow Idols. Emily Vargas and Hapi Gabriel’s absence took a toll on the Idols, who lost four sets. Rick Brien swept Charlie Borja 21-15 in set one and 21-12 in set two, making three more sets for the Hawks.
Dynamites take lead in regular season
With 112 sets in the regular season, the Hawks took second place overall. The Dynamites pulled 15 sets from Friday and Saturday, putting them ahead with 116. They tied 15-15 with the GreenBucks when Guintu and Lee lost to Robert Reyes and Michelle Caleon.
Meanwhile, the Idols prevailed against team Royale Blue 22-8. Idols’ Manatsu Omori launched back-to-back wins with Hapi Gabriel and Cris Hilario, earning six sets. Gabriel wasn’t so lucky in his second game when he and Lucelle Lampera fell to Royale’s Macoi Aguda and Shirley Kim. The Royales hauled five more sets from Jaja Samonte, Vic Regis, and Jerome Malasarte before losing the last two games.
The Orange Shuttlers also faced team Red Hot Chili Shuttlers, winning 20-10. The semifinals will continue this weekend, followed by the championship.
