WPS players finished their first set in a flash, after several serves from Gabrielle Race. The Knights missed the ball on several occasions, giving WPS easy points early in the game. WPS’ Danny Auther sent powerful forearm passes that sent the Knights whirling for the ball.
WPS earned their winning point after a serve from Minori Yoshida. The Knights defended with a clean bump pass, but failed to follow up with an attack.
Knight’s Ken Amog led his team to a good start in the beginning of the second set, catching up to Whispering Palms by 7-7. Auther accompanied Race with his set of aces, earning a couple more points for WPS.
At front and center of Whispering Palms’ side of the court was Negahr Rastguiy, who defended her team from the Knights’ incoming spikes. While the Knights worked their way up in the scores, Whispering Palms delivered their final blow and won their second set by 25-21.
Sharks take a bite on Whispering Palms
Prior to their success against MCS, WPS endured their second loss in the hands of the Calvary Christian Academy Sharks during last Tuesday’s junior varsity game at Whispering Palms’ volleyball court.
Beating Whispering Palms in the first two sets wasn’t easy for the Sharks. WPS players trailed the Sharks by 16-13 in the middle of the first set. The Sharks later pushed on into the second set after winning by 25-18.
Whispering Palms’ Gabrielle Race, Lucy Park, and Negahr Rastguiy rallied at the front row, spiking the ball for immediate kills.
With a series of deadlocks in the late game, the Sharks eventually outlasted their opponents, winning by 25-23.
Junior varsity and varsity games are scheduled today between CCA and Grace Christian Academy, Marianas Baptist Academy and Saipan International School Team A, MCS and SIS Team B, and WPS and Saipan Community School.
