Son Hyun wins women’s golf tourney

SON “Sunny” Hyun claimed the spotlight Saturday at Coral Ocean Golf Resort by winning the September tournament of the CNMI Women’s Golf Association.

Consistency was the key to Hyun’s triumph as she cleared the front nine with a gross of 40 and then carried over her swing to the back nine for a total gross score of 80. Sporting a handicap of 15, her net score was an unbeatable 65.

In second place was Chang Eun Ae who completed the front nine with a gross score of 43 and then improved her stroke on the back nine with a gross of 41 and a total gross of 84. With an 18 handicap, her net score was 66.

Finishing third was Yu Su Jeong who had an impressive front nine performance, scoring  a gross of 38, but then she struggled on the back nine, scoring 42 for a gross total of 80. Aided by a handicap of 12, she notched a net score of 68.

In fourth place was Sae Hee Kim who scored a total gross of 81 which, thanks to a 12 handicap, gave her a net score of 69.

Completing the top-five list was Rose Rohringer who also ended with a net score of 69, but based on the score-card playoff, Sae Hee Kim  had the better back nine score.
