MARIANAS High School and Saipan Southern High School performed well in the 1000m events of the PSS Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series on Saturday at Kilili Beach.
MHS ruled the girls 1000m event. In the preliminary round, the MHS girls were in sync as they powered through the three-lap race and crossed the finish line with a time of 06:52.810 to collect five points.
SSHS came in second at 07:10.850 for three points while Kagman High School finished third with a time of 08:17.580 for one point.
The final round was a bit tougher for the MHS girls, but they still pulled through with another first-place finish, clocking 07:08.250 to bag five points while SSHS had to settle for second place with a time of 07:10.970 for three points. Coming in third was KHS with a time of 08:21.850 to earn one point.
Overall, MHS leads in the girls 1000m with 10 points while SSHS has six points and KHS has two.
Boys 1000m
In the boys 1000m event, SSHS gave it their all in the preliminary round to finish first with a time of 06:07.230 followed by MHS at 06:15.230 and KHS at 07:09.700.
In the final round, SSHS performed stronger and gained a huge distance thanks to their sharp turns to finish first with a time of 06:15.540.
MHS came in second at 06:33.210 while KHS was third at 07:09.400.
Overall, SSHS leads the boys 1000m with 10 points while MHS has six points and KHS two.
Mixed 1000m
SSHS also stood tall in the mixed 1000m event and was simply unmatched as its team members cleared the preliminary with an impressive time of 06:31.850.
KHS this time clinched second place, clocking 07:16.160 to narrowly beat MHS which crossed the finish line at 07:17.260.
The final round was no different as SSHS finished nearly a minute ahead — 06:34.620 — of its closest pursuer, MHS, which clocked 07:27.030 while KHS came in third at 07:43.650.
Overall, SSHS leads in the mixed 1000m with 10 points while KHS and MHS share four points each.
