Tokahao shortstop Jerome Delos Santos gathers for the throw to first for an out during a 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League game at the Dandan baseball field.
Both teams had a strong start. Tokahao were first up to bat and seized a 5-0 lead with three of the runs caused by Peleliu’s errors.
But Peleliu replied in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Cartfield Sablan’s two-RBI double to remain within reach, 4-5.
Tokahao scored three runs in the second inning and five in the third while Peleliu kept up with two runs in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third to cut Tokahao’s lead, 9-13.
Although both teams had a quiet fourth inning, Tokahao excelled in the top of the fifth to further distance themselves from Peleliu.
At first, it seemed like the inning was going to end quickly as two outs were already caught during Tokahao’s first two attempts at bat.
However, they quickly bounced back with an explosive offense that started with Mark Vilagomez’s RBI single followed by Jeff Cruz’s three-run homer. The rest of the team contributed with single RBIs for a total of 11 runs as Tokahao stormed to a 21-9 lead.
Peleliu tried to catch up, but were allowed only two runs. They decided to call it quits and end the game early with two innings left, 21-11.
