In fact, my school library has done a tremendous job in implementing such programs. We enjoyed the Reading Rave Program and Books Across the Waters Program. These programs have allowed students of our school and members of the Book Club to communicate with students from the mainland and discussed books of our interest using technology through SSHS Library social networking site and blog. This was made possible by our school librarian, Mrs. Sudi Napalan, and her library technician, Mrs. Dorsha Guinto.
They have provided excellent services to the students who use the library — to do research, study, find books for our reading enjoyment. Mrs. Napalan, also the Book Club Advisor, has organized numerous activities that are fun and exciting such as the Book-Movie Tie-ins field trips, Stamping for Troops and 2010 Reading Challenge.
One of the biggest events of the year is Teen Read Week. For 2010-2011, Teen Read Week will be from October 18-22, 2010. This will be another great opportunity to share our thoughts about teen reading to our Saipan Mayor and other officials at the Teen Read Week Proclamation.
Throughout this week, we will observe 15-minutes of reading for fun during our 4th period class. We will also excited to hear our teachers and fellow students do Booktalks and Read-aloud during lunch at our library. I am thrilled that community members like Tina Sablan and Congressman Kilili Sablan will be coming this week to read for our teens this week.
Teen Read Week is an exciting event any teen should not miss in their school library. I hope other students are having a lively celebration in their school library. Happy Teen Read Week!
