Skills emerge as Spring Kick 2010 opens

The aggressiveness of Gray Team’s neophytes led by Jersh Angeles and Ariel Mariano paid off when they defeated the Big Blue Team, 2-0.

John Lee slipped past Big Blue’s midfield defender Nicole Leblanc as he dribbled all the way and hit the goal from the right side.

Leblanc with great help form Pat Coleman also showed close-to-perfect midfield job tackling the ball successfully back to their own play a number of times.

The Big Blue forwarders also demonstrated what the beginners need to know about setting up plays with Coleman and Jeffro Elliot’s passing skills that brought the ball a dozen times too close to the goal.

It just happens that Ed Cho, the Gray Teams goalie, guarded his territory like a marine soldier, and in the middle of the rain protected their lead towards the ball game.

There were over a dozen opportunities that Elliot and the next forwarder, Jenny Howard could tie the game in the second half. Cho did a great defense there.

Lee’s second ball came up in the second half, after Big Blue goalie Richard Brostrom blocked Babes Estrada’s attack from the left but the ball bounced back to where Lee was. All Lee had to do was feed the ball back into the goal.

Four other coed teams, will play on Wednesday and Friday for this year’s Spring Kick that was organized a few years ago, strictly for fun.

Green Team is captained by Rob Epley; Orange Team is led by Mel Borja;   Red Team, Cathy Anderson and Yellow Team, Maria Ornes.
