Legislature’s air-con fuses burned due to low voltage capacity

Further damage to the building’s electrical system and electronic equipment, however, was averted after the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. adjusted on Tuesday its load tap to increase voltage capacity.

The building’s power supply was  shut down on Tuesday afternoon to allow the CUC crew to fix the problem.

In a communication to the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, Legislative Bureau Director Glenna S.P. Reyes said the power fluctuation last week was due to the low voltage capacity.

“We have been experiencing power fluctuation within the past week that tripped off our air-conditioning units and burned the air conditioning fuses,” Reyes said.

“Personnel from CUC advised that the building is operating on a very low voltage capacity and would require an adjustment of the load tap to increase the voltage up to the capacity sufficient to service our building,” she added.

The legislative building dates back to the Trust Territory era and has exceeded its original electrical capacity as it now uses more office and electronic equipment.
