Kilili: $2.6M in FEMA funds for NMI

The formula-based allocations require the CNMI government to submit grant applications no later than June 20, 2011. Additional funds are also available to the local government through other competitive grant programs at FEMA.

“These grant allocations make substantial funds available to the government of the CNMI for emergency preparedness, planning, mitigation, response, and recovery,” according to Sablan.

The funds allocated to the CNMI include $556,393 for the Drivers License Security Grant, $853,295 for the Emergency Management Performance Grant, $1,157,680 for the State Homeland Security Grant, and for the $25,877 Citizen Corps Grant.

“The funds are intended to address important local, as well as national, security interests,” Sablan said.

“And they will also help stimulate much-needed economic activity in the commonwealth.”
