AN earthquake measuring 4.5 in the Richter scale has been recorded 70 miles north-northwest of Pagan on Friday morning.
Pagan is among the CNMI’s Northern Islands.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, the tremor struck at around 5:40 a.m. and had a depth of 193.6 kilometers.
Rudolfo M. Pua, director of the Emergency Management Office, yesterday said the quake was picked up by EMO’s seismic equipment on Anatahan.
“We did pick that up but it was too light so we didn’t report it to the public,” said Pua.
No tsunami alert had been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center as a result of the temblor.
The Marianas had been hit by three major earthquakes since January. The first one was in February, with a magnitude of 4.9 in the Richter scale, followed by a 7.2 magnitude quake that caused multiple damages on Guam, and a 5.2 tremor on May 22.
