He said previous mayors’ implemented good programs but the community is no longer “what they used to be a long time ago.”
Sanchez said the municipal government should emphasize beautification, cleanliness and healthcare.
He recalled that when he was a boy, the mayor’s office provided many community services and was conducting environmental and village inspections.
“I know people will say I’m going to be too strict. Everything in the beginning is going to be tough but as soon as you see the development, people will appreciate it,” Sanchez said.
He said he is aware that the government does not have a lot of money, “but what we can do is join hands and work together for the betterment of all.”
“If we all put aside our differences I think we can and accomplish a lot,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez was an elementary teacher for six years, a sports recreation coordinator and a disaster coordinating team member when Saipan was hit by a strong typhoon in 1985.
He is now a member of the team revising the Chamorro dictionary.
