The objective of the observance was to raise awareness about how people were taking action to reduce their risk to disasters. This year, the observance took place with the framework of the “Step Up for Disaster Risk Reduction” campaign, and its theme was “Making Children and Young People Partners for Disaster Risk Reduction.”
The purpose of the radio program was to remind people that natural disaster events are almost always destructive and involve loss of lives and properties.
The program also included the 1992 State Disaster Preparedness & Response Plan, which had been in use for a period of time before it recently updated into a draft Emergency and Disaster Operation Plan.
