‘Friend’ gets 18 months for ‘ice’

Naraja credited the time Jin Fang Zhang, 41, also known as Friend, already served at the Department of Corrections facility since her arrest last October.

Pursuant to the plea agreement, the other charge of trafficking of a controlled substance against Zhang was dismissed with prejudice by the court as moved by Assistant Attorney General Benjamin Petersburg.

Zhang was required to pay a $2,000 fine and a $100 court assessment fee.

Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig served as Zhang’s counsel, on behalf of Assistant Public Defender Michael Brown who was off-island.

On Oct. 25, 2010, Judge David Wiseman signed and authorized an eavesdropping search warrant to record the drug activities of Zhang, who was pregnant at the time.

The next day, Zhang was arrested after $800 worth of “ice” was purchased from her by authorities.

After her arrest in the parking lot of the Afetnas Square, Drug Enforcement Task Force and DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives searched her room at the Sablan Construction barracks, also in San Antonio, where drug paraphernalia and an unknown substance suspected to be “ice” were found, police said.
