Grace Christian Academy celebrates Spirit Week

The annual event aims to emphasize camaraderie and unity among the students, GCA principal Faith Dela Rosa said.

This year’s theme is “Connecting the Head, the Heart, and the Mind.”

Last Monday was Color-Coordinated Day.

Yesterday was Twins Day, with students wearing the same outfits to show their “team work and cooperation.”

Today, Career Day, the school’s over 300 students will wear the uniforms of their chosen professions.

“We’ve been doing this week-long celebration for 10 years and we always see a good turnout and participation from our students,” Dela Rosa told Variety.

Thursday is Wacko Day and students are expected to “rock the campus.”

After the pep rally and games slated for Friday, Dela Rosa said the winning classes will be determined based on the points they received from the games and the theme category.

The awarding ceremony will coincide with the launching of the school’s quarterly newsletter.

Enrollment target

GCA anticipated a lower enrolment this school year, but Dela Rosa said their enrolment figure exceeded their target of 300.

“We have 316 students as of today,” she said. “This is a miracle for us considering the economic crisis we have on the island. We’re really thankful.”

Last year, GCA had 333 students, but some of them have transferred to public schools this year.

GCA has 60 new students and less than 10 are foreigners taking English as a Second Language.

Dela Rosa said GCA may still have more students based on inquiries from potential transferees.

This school year, a new Rosetta Stone curriculum has been incorporated into the students’ Spanish class.

Rosetta Stone is a language-learning software that “utilizes a combination of images, text, and sound, with difficulty levels increasing as the student progresses, in order to teach various vocabulary terms and grammatical functions intuitively, without drills or translation.”
