“I congratulate Mr. Schultz and look forward to working with him on the improvement of health care in the Northern Mariana Islands,” said Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan, “particularly with respect to the implementation of the new health care reform law, which will be largely administered by Health and Human Services.”
Sablan added, “Assuring the benefits of the new consumer protections, making sure that increased Medicaid funding is used effectively to improve the level of care for the 11,000 people in the Northern Marianas who use Medicaid services, and assisting the Governor in deciding on the benefits of implementing an insurance exchange with subsidies for premiums — these are all important aspects of health care reform that we will be implementing in coordination with HHS.”
As an HHS regional director, Schultz will serve as a key representative of Sebelius.
Currently, Schultz is director of the California Recovery Task Force, responsible for the oversight and implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Previously, he serviced as a principal advisor to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on health care reform.
Schultz received his B.. in political science and international studies from The American University in Washington, D.C. and has a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University, also in Washington, D.C.
