‘Live Healthy, Walk with PSS’ draws close to 300 participants

“We provide an activity that will hopefully give people the opportunity to get out and do a little bit of extra exercise,” said Dale Roberts, FNS program manager.

This activity will be hosted every first Saturday of each month except this month and on April, which is on the second Saturday.

All the walks will be held on the pathway from 13 Fishermen to Oleai Beach except on January when Kagman schools are sponsoring the event. “The January walk we do in Kagman. We go from Kagman Elementary into the golf course to the clubhouse and back,” said Roberts.

Schools are allotted a certain month on which they will co-host the event with FNS and another partner school. However, high schools like Saipan Southern High School and Marianas High School are hosting their own events in April and June, respectively.

The funding of each event goes from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on how many participants are expected.

Succeeding walks will be held on Oct. 1, Nov. 5, Dec.  3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, March 3, April 14, May 5, and June 2.

Roberts said the free shirts they hand out promote a message for people to eat healthy and exercise.
