HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The U.S. Coast Guard on Saturday continued its search for six people aboard the disabled cargo vessel Mariana after an overturned boat was spotted in waters north of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

SUPER Typhoon Sinlaku destroyed houses, flooded villages, caused a sinkhole, knocked down power poles, uprooted trees and farm crops, and left the islands without power and water.

FEDERAL Emergency Management Agency officials are on the ground in the CNMI assessing the widespread destruction left by Super Typhoon Sinlaku and preparing recommendations to President Donald Trump on whether the islands should be declared a major disaster area.

NORTHERN Marianas College sustained extensive damage as Super Typhoon Sinlaku ravaged the CNMI over three days last week, but Acting President Frankie Eliptico vowed the institution would begin damage assessments and short- and long-term recovery efforts this week.

THE Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, during an emergency session Saturday, passed House Local Bill 24-55, appropriating $500,000 in poker fees collections to help Saipan and the Northern Islands recover from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Sinlaku.

FUEL price signs on Saipan were knocked down by Super Typhoon Sinlaku. By Saturday morning, fuel prices had also declined as residents lined up for supplies in the storm’s aftermath.
