The citizens and residents, whose ages ranged from toddlers to those in the 80’s, pursued traditionally practiced activities – dancing, story telling, singing, and most of all, sharing – which, for one reason or another, have been pushed aside.
For a day, all of the people were able to reminisce about the past – that which is seemingly lost, and yet is alive and well preserved in the memories of the old. The young relived the ways of the old.Existing bonds were reinforced and new ones forged as the people prepared to tackle the challenges of the New Year with a renewed sense of urgency. The festivities began early Saturday morning and lasted until late that night. Food was abundant and was evenly shared amongst everyone. The music was a mixture of traditional and modern genre. The dances were unrehearsed and yet were performed perfectly – with so much humor and grace. Each and everyone was honored for the little things he or she has contributed or will contribute to the development of Ngarchelong State; and for being a part of an effort to elevate the lives of the people as a whole. Each added unto the memory of a people.
