Rhonda Jonathan also known as Randa Jonathan was charged with grand larceny, cheating and embezzlement.
Jonathan was served with the arrest warrant on Thursday. She appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.The affidavit of Criminal Investigation Section Officer Earlee Decherong stated that on January 23, 2009, PICRC’s CEO Favian Iyar called the Bureau of Public Safety and reported a theft incident at the PICRC.The affidavit stated that during the investigation, it was revealed that PICRC’s Accounting Officer discovered irregularities covering the period of February 1, 2008 through December 1, 2008 during her audit of sales receipts and deposits generated by the PICRC Gift Shop and Aquarium.The Accounting Officer discovered that approximately $48, 604.25 was missing.PICRC conducted investigation and determined that the defendant was the only person who could be responsible for the missing funds.The affidavit stated that Jonathan was hired as a receptionist/store clerk in June 10, 2006 until March 28, 2008.On March 29, the defendant became an office assistant/store clerk and her duties included preparing sales reports and to make sales deposits.The affidavit stated that a meeting between defendant and PICRC executives was held and defendant admitted taking the money for her personal use.The affidavit added that defendant was planning to leave Palau, prior to her arrest last week.
