Fly High won the first game in three sets, juicing-out the Kingz, 48-35.
A team “juices” its opponents if it has scored more game points in three sets and won the third set.
In game two, the Kingz lost the first two sets, 15-2 and 15-9. They returned to take the last set, 15-13. Fly High became a little too confident, nearly losing the game. Because the Kingz won the last set but scored fewer points, they prevented Fly High from winning in ‘regulation time’ and forced the game to an overtime set.
The Kingz — still at a disadvantage — needed to win two overtime sets (which must be won with seven points or a goal – whichever comes first).
Fly High recovered and skunked the Kingz in the first overtime set, 7–0.
In the third game, the Kingz juiced-out their foes, 48-35. The Kingz won, 16-11, 15-12, and 17-12 in sets one to three. They outscored Fly High 3-0 in aces, 1-0 in xunks, 4-3 in kees, and 1-0 in goals.
Fly High ended the best-of-five championship series in the fourth game, winning 15-14 in the first set. AJ Castro scored Fly High’s first point by jamming down a served ball on the front line at the net. Fly High took the second set, 16-10.
Lily Williams pumped up the Fly Highs by scoring two aces and a xunk in the third set. They juiced-out the Kingz, 46-31.
Fly High outscored the Kingz, 7-3 in aces, 1-0 in xunks, 1-0 in jams, during the final game. Both teams scored one kee and one goal each.
Joining Williams and Castro were: Wilton Laniyo, Damart Teregeyo, and Ryan Ichihara.
On Friday, March 18, community league Rocball players will challenge Fly High in a friendly match. Their game will start 12:45 p.m. at the MHS gym.
